Use bittorrent.
Install “utorrent” from utorrent.org
Search for the shows that you want on btjunkie.org, mininova.org or uknova.org.uk.
Make sure you configure the bittorrent client suitably (read the manual). You might also want to use a proxy server to protect yourself from copyright complaints. (search Clusty.com for “proxy server bittorrent”)
As you know, China doesn’t care a lot if individual citizens break international copyright laws. But you don’t want to break their laws regarding distribution of politically sensitive material!
Therefore, make sure that you are discreet about what you watch, download etc. Probably the worst thing that could happen is that you get deported, but avoid it by being cautious:
Don’t talk with Chinese friends about downloading and use a proxy server and PeerGuardian (search Clusty) to hide your real IP address while you are on bittorrent.
Do not count on Google or Yahoo too much while in China: those are censored. Try to use less famous search engines like Clusty which are not filtered.
For American news, use your favourite news channel and watch the videos there. If you have trouble reaching US news sites, try British, Canadian, Australian or South African.
For browsing you might want to consider using a browsing proxy server (search clusty for “fast browsing proxy server”). This would give you a non-Chinese IP address, increase your anonymity and make it simpler to access the sites you want to reach.
